Amazon, Google, Facebook, IBM and Microsoft have all united to create AI partnership. They have 777 million pounds for the research of this and it is said to help humanity as the end result of creating them. There is also use of research labs to help out create the machines. The research has been carried in even until now two and a half years later and the progress of the product has jumped.
I think that the use of AI is a good idea but I don't think it'll help humanity to some extent as it would just put people out of jobs which is bad for the economy and it would be a lot harder for people to survive.
